This page logs my progress of the Vortex build for the month of September 2005

| Spent a good part of this month putting in interior and exterior stairs as well as insulation in my work bay. In addition had to have another 50 ton of stone trucked in to level out the driveway. Also using rail road ties for border holding up gradient to the driveway. | ||
| 9/24/2005 | Completed installation of insulation and dry-wall my work bay have started mudding/taping. Also put in a stainless steel chimney for the wood burning stove. | |

| 9/26/2005 | I live a bit of a distance from where I work and drive approximately 115 miles (round trip) every work day. I knew this when I moved to WV 5 years ago, but I wanted to live on top of my mountain and at that time gas prices was only about $1.10/gal. This is one of the reasons that I started the Vortex project, not only is it cool, and I am making it myself but the intent was to use the Vortex as my daily ride going to/from work and save on some gas. It looks like I did not start the project early enough...
Last month between my wife driving to work 80miles (round trip) and my driving, our gas bill was more than my mortgage, time to make some changes!!! Recently with the huge bumps in gas pricing I put on order a new 2005 Toyota Prius. I did lots of research and this is one of the best hybrid vehicles in the market today, not to mention the 56/60 mpg that it is able to achieve. Well I today it arrived and I traded in my Ford Ranger and am the proud owner of the Prius.
First impressions are that this vehicle is 3-4 years ahead of anything that the competition has to offer! There are numerous technologies integrated into it and right 'out of the box' I am getting near 50mpg! You also have to remember that WV has mountains, and I live at about 3000' on top of one, so you can only imagine what would be achievable on more level ground. A friend of mine in southern WV says that he regularly he gets between 60-70mpg!!! I still intend to complete the Vortex however and as soon as I can will be getting back to it. I would be happy to field any questions about the Prius, just email me. |
